Position 10 to Top 3: How 90 Days of Dental SEO Transformed Kidz Teeth’s Search Presence

Some practices spend years building a clinical reputation parents trust. Kidz Teeth had already done that. What they were missing was a search presence strong enough to match it.
When Click Click Media began working with the Auckland paediatric dental clinic in March 2026, the site was technically compromised and content-thin on its most important pages. The focus keyword “paediatric dentist” sat at position 10. Most high-value Auckland queries were either invisible or buried too deep to generate clicks. Three months later, eleven of the sixteen tracked keywords sat in the top 3. Key events on the site, referral form downloads and new patient enquiries, grew 84%. “Paediatric dentist” had moved to position 3.

The Client: A Specialist Practice Built for Children

Kidz Teeth is a specialist paediatric dental clinic based in Meadowbank, Auckland, operating under the Abano Healthcare group. The practice works exclusively with children: preventive care, early orthodontic assessment, treatment under sedation, and supporting patients with complex dental needs or high anxiety around dental visits.
Paediatric dentistry draws patients through two distinct channels. Parents search directly for a children’s dentist they can trust. GPs and general dentists refer children who need specialist care. Both audiences run search queries that Kidz Teeth is built to serve. Before March 2026, neither audience was finding the clinic near the top of Google.
The Challenge: Strong Practice, Thin Search Profile
The problems sat across three separate layers of the site, and each one was compounding the others.
Thin content on the pages that mattered most
The core service pages were significantly under-developed. The primary service page, the referral page for GPs and general dentists, and the services hub all had minimal word count, weak internal linking, and little semantic depth. None were positioned to compete for specialist queries. For a dental SEO campaign to work, the content foundation has to be there first.
Technical issues creating contradictory signals
The homepage meta title was well over the recommended character limit, affecting how the site displayed in search results. Duplicate metadata sat across several pages. Key service pages were loading slower than acceptable thresholds. Multiple pages also carried more than one H1 tag, sending conflicting signals to Google about what each page was actually about.
Incomplete conversion tracking
GA4 was not capturing the actions that indicate conversion intent. Referral form downloads and new patient enquiry events were not tracked. Without that data, there was no reliable way to measure whether organic traffic was producing real-world leads. The reporting gap meant decisions were being made without the full picture.
A sparse local citation profile
Local healthcare practices depend on consistent listings across authoritative directories as a local SEO signal. At the start of the engagement, Kidz Teeth’s citation profile needed significant development.
The Approach: Content, Technical, Tracking, Citations

The strategy ran across four tracks simultaneously. Content was the priority, but no single track waited for another to complete.
Content rewrites and expansion
Copy was developed around two documented client personas: the anxious parent researching specialist care for their child, and the referring GP or general dentist looking for a trusted paediatric specialist. Content was also reviewed against applicable dental advertising guidelines before going live.
The referral page received a full rewrite targeting the GP and referring dentist audience directly. The primary service page was significantly expanded, with new sections added and focus keywords integrated throughout. The homepage was rewritten from the top, with updated metadata, a keyword-targeted heading structure, and a cannibalisation check completed across the site.
Emergency care, visiting information, and the services hub were all updated and expanded. Each page received stronger internal linking and improved calls to action.
Technical fixes
Duplicate metadata was resolved across the site. Server response times were improved on key pages. Heading structures were cleaned up sitewide. Mobile layout was updated to match desktop, with oversized elements trimmed and content repositioned for readability. Colour contrast was updated for consistency. A fillable PDF referral form was built and added to the site, giving referring clinicians a cleaner experience and creating a trackable conversion point.
Tracking setup
Custom conversion events were set up in GA4 to capture the specific on-site actions that indicate genuine patient intent, including referral form downloads and new patient enquiries. Custom tag logic was built to translate the platform’s encoded filenames into readable event labels, making GA4 reporting clean and usable for the first time.
Citation building
Nine new citations were submitted across quality NZ and health directories over the three months.
The Results: Rankings, Visibility, and Enquiries All Moved

Every metric tracked through the campaign moved in the right direction. The table below compares each baseline snapshot to the value on 31 May.
| Metric | Baseline | 31 May | Change |
| SEMrush visibility | 40.19% | 47.82% | +19.0% |
| GSC impressions (3-month total) | ~15,500 | 17,389 | +12.2% |
| GSC relevant queries | ~19/mo | ~46/mo | +142% |
| Focus KW: paediatric dentist | Position 10 | Position 3 | +7 positions |
The monthly averages show how the gains built through the campaign period. Impressions per month grew from a baseline of 3,585 to 5,796, a 61.7% increase. Relevant search queries grew from 322 to 519 per month, a 61% lift. Organic sessions grew 44.8%. The session key-event rate, the share of sessions that resulted in a measurable conversion action, improved from 21.6% to 27.3%.
| Metric | Source | Baseline Avg/mo | Campaign Avg/mo | Change |
| Impressions | GSC | 3,585 | 5,796 | +61.7% |
| Relevant search queries | GSC | 322 | 519 | +61.0% |
| Organic sessions | GA4 | 250 | 362 | +44.8% |
| Key events (forms + enquiries) | GA4 | 75.7 | 139.0 | +83.7% |
| Session key-event rate | GA4 | 21.6% | 27.3% | +26.2% |
| Average position | GSC | 9.61 | 8.79 | Improved |
The key event growth is worth stopping on. Organic sessions grew 44.8%, but key events grew 83.7%. New traffic was converting at a higher rate than the existing baseline. The content rewrites were not just attracting more visitors, they were attracting the right kind.
The Standout: From Position 93 to Top 3 for ‘Kids Dentist Auckland’

If one number captures the full scope of the shift, it’s the keyword distribution.
At the start of tracking in March, five of the sixteen tracked keywords sat in the top 3. By 31 May, eleven sat in the top 3. All sixteen ranked in the top 5. The five Meadowbank location terms held position 1 throughout the campaign. The gains came from the broader Auckland queries, the ones with real volume and real competition.
| Keyword | Position (4 Mar) | Position (31 May) | Change |
| kids dentist auckland | 93 | 3 | +90 |
| kids dental clinic auckland | 21 | 3 | +18 |
| childrens dentist auckland | 12 | 3 | +9 |
| paediatric dentist | 8 | 3 | +5 |
| paediatric dentists auckland | 7 | 3 | +4 |
| kids dental auckland | 6 | 3 | +3 |
| kids dentist | 8 | 4 | +4 |
| childrens dentist | 14 | 4 | +10 |
| kids dental clinic | 19 | 4 | +15 |
| 5 Meadowbank location terms | 1 | 1 | Held |
Position 93 to position 3 for “kids dentist auckland” is not a marginal gain. That is the difference between a keyword that sends no traffic and one that generates consistent enquiries. It happened because the page work gave Google genuine reasons to rank it: the right content depth, the right structural signals, and a clean technical foundation supporting it.
The keyword distribution table tells the same story in aggregate.
| Ranking Band | Keywords (4 Mar) | Keywords (31 May) | Change |
| Top 3 | 5 | 11 | +6 |
| Top 5 | 5 | 16 | +11 |
| Top 10 | 11 | 16 | +5 |
| Top 100 | 16 | 16 | Full coverage held |
The Takeaway: What Dental Practices Need to Know About SEO
Specialist healthcare practices face a predictable SEO challenge. The clinical depth is usually there. The training, the patient outcomes, the specialist equipment. But the website rarely reflects any of it at the depth search engines need to rank it.
Kidz Teeth’s pages were not underperforming because the practice was not good enough. They were underperforming because the content did not give Google enough to work with, the technical signals were contradictory, and the local authority signals were underdeveloped.
Ninety days of focused dental SEO work closed that gap. Tracking is now clean. Content is built to depth. Technical signals are no longer holding rankings back. The trajectory from here is up.
The pattern holds across healthcare SEO broadly. When the technical foundations are resolved, the content reflects real clinical depth, and local signals are properly established, organic visibility tends to move faster than most practices expect. The challenge is usually not that the gains are hard to achieve. It’s that the right work has not been done yet.
A similar story played out for Aussie Home Services, where a rebuilt search foundation grew the keyword profile from 216 to 860 tracked terms. The fundamentals drive the results.
